Lives In Motion Training Programs and Certifications

Lives In Motion (LIM) offers four Training Programs to strengthen the skills of those who provide services to individuals with volatile behaviors. Training Programs provide participants with the expertise to influence the thinking of individuals in a social group to achieve a better fit with the environment.

Training Programs range in skill level from introductory to master level. Entrance into some training programs depends on successful completion of prerequisite courses.

Introduction to LIM Intensive Systems Therapy (IST)

1-Day Training Program (6 hours)

This training introduces participants to the Lives In Motion Staff Training Program. At the conclusion of training participants will be able to:

• State an underlying premise of Cognitive Behavior Therapy
• Name the basic components of IST
• Explain the role of the members of the primary social unit in IST

LIM Coach Training

2-Day Training Program (12 hours)

This training teaches participants three basic techniques based in Cognitive Behavior Therapy that help reduce the probability of volatile reactions, improve communication, and increase trust and the use of logic and reason in problematic interactions.

Participants learn how to:

• Construct effective “I” Statements
• Use Fact Checking
• Coach new adaptive thinking through Guided Discovery

Participants receive training booklets with techniques, examples and short exercises to complete independently. They can check their answers online with a free Answer Book.

At the completion of training, participants will receive an Acknowledgment of Attendance. They can also obtain an additional LIM Coach Mastery Award by passing a written test.

Participants who successfully complete the LIM Coach Training can apply these hours to future IST Certification Training requirements.

LIM Intensive Systems Therapy Remote Certification Training

15-2 hr Training/Practicum Program (30 hours)

This training, which qualifies participants to lead IST groups, is designed to:

• Provide participants with a deeper understanding of Cognitive Behavior Therapy principles underlying the IST techniques
• Teach three staff techniques to decrease the probability of volatile interactions
• Train participants to conduct IST weekly sessions, IST Daily Co-Management sessions and Activity Scheduling

Participants receive individual sets of four training booklets. Through teaching and coaching with an individual from your agency, participants will understand the role of IST group members in creating a person-centered, trauma-informed environment for optimal behavior outcomes and goodness of fit with the environment.

The remote training consists of an initial two-hour instruction followed by 14 two-hour IST/Training sessions. Each IST/Training session is divided into two parts. During the first hour, the trainer will coach an individual from your agency in a live IST session. The second hour is devoted to additional IST training. All trainings are conducted remotely through Zoom HIPAA. Upon successful completion of class hours and post-test, participants will receive a Certificate for Intensive Systems Therapy. This certification is valid for two years and can be renewed through a recertification program.

If they have completed the LIM Coach Training they will already own part of the set and will be given the fourth book. Only Lives In Motion Authorized Agents can train and offer valid certification for Intensive Systems Therapy.

Lives In Motion Train the Trainer Certification

1-Day Training (6 hours)

This training qualifies the participant to teach IST techniques within their own agency. To qualify for this training, applicants must hold a current Certificate for Intensive Systems Therapy, complete at least 40 hours of conducting IST sessions and interview successfully with an authorized Lives In Motion agent.

This training teaches participants how to teach the Four Part Training Series to others. It allows them to access Lives In Motion training materials related to Basic Staff Skills and Intensive Systems Therapy.

Lives In Motion Intensive Systems Therapy Certifications and Lives In Motion Train the Trainer Certification will only be issued to participants registered through Lives In Motion Authorized Agents.

Training sessions may require a minimum number of participants.
